After 4+ years, we’ve discovered that The Truth in Advertising clip is more than a Director’s promotional reel piece- a longer version with additional scenes is available on DVD! If you work in advertising or marketing- you have to see this Quicktime clip. It’s a riot.

My copywriter partner Thomas Elia found this clip around 1999. For the longest time we had no-idea where it came from. Über Art Director and roommate David Lloyd received Director Tim Hamilton’s reel a year or two later and it contained this clip. As far as we knew it was a simple one-off promotional piece for his reel.
Sylvain Provencher, has just pointed me in the direction of the longer DVD Truth in Advertising movie. I’m shock we missed this after all this time. This is just a few of the clips from the DVD. If you think this is as funny and as accurate as we do, I highly recommend you get see whole thing. The DVD is available from Amazon.

"How to get Ahead in Advertising" is not in fact the longer versions of these spots. These were director promos.

Thanks for the post - and for keeping this clip on your server - I've been trying to find this again for YEARS! Pure genius. Madcap hilarity. Somehow it captures the truth along with the glamour this industry assumes of itself. I look forward to sleeping with you!
Since I first saw clips of this film I thought it was perfect brilliance. Having enjoyed it for years, it's weird now to see Colin as the Snack Fairy. I sure admire his talent, and the talent of all who had anything to do with this film.
refreshing but not so different from my time as a creative director in the 70's and 80's only . . . the coke thing was hidden, the sex was only talked about but mostly the client side was just like portrayed.
